Reverse Engineering
Reverse Engineering Definition (v):
To disassemble and examine or analyze in detail (a product or device) to discover the concepts involved in manufacture usually in order to produce something similar
- Merriam Webster
Reasons to Need Reverse Engineering For Your Product
Old Technology
Your design was created on photo films many years ago and this production technology is quickly not being supported at all any more. Your design will need to be brought up into the current digital technology so that it can continue to be produced by modern manufacturers at a reasonable price.
Lost/Corrupted Files
Your design files were lost or corrupted, and you need to make a change either in assembly vendors or to your design, so we can reverse engineer the board to extract the original design files so that you can make the changes necessary to help your business succeed.
Out of Business
The manufacturer that you have been dealing with for years has unexpectedly gone out of business and taken your manufacturing files with them (This is VERY common).
How/Why to Reverse Engineer Another Product
Gaining Understanding of Product Concepts
You want to understand the operational concepts of a "typical" application that is available commercially. This could include:
- Fire Alarms
- Strobe Lights
- Radio Frequency Transmitters/Receivers
- Security Systems
- Things that are "non-proprietary"
- A product that has an active patent-holder that is still current are "proprietary"
- Instead of using the US Patent and Trademark Organizations website (www.USPTO.gov)
- Honortronics recommends www.FreePatentsOnline.com
Critical Product No Longer Available
If a 3rd party product is critical component of your product and the supplier either refuses or are not able to sell the product you need to run your business, we can work with this problem, but we will need more details before we can work up a quote for you. Please contact us below.
OldE Technology
The product that you want to create is based on proprietary technology that has been released to the public domain because its patent has expired and there are no existing new filings that may cover your new design. If this is the case, you are "free and clear" and it is the "old west", baby! We can take those design concepts and integrate them into your new product.
